Prelude for Wind Band

This Prelude constitutes the opening number of the zarzuela “Próxima estación, ZARZUELA”, written for Symphony Orchestra.

“Próxima estación, ZARZUELA” was born from a love story, one of those that time seems to have left behind, but that never quite disappear.

Twenty years ago, a young couple had to end their relationship for work-related reasons, going their separate ways and leaving behind a story that neither of them ever managed to forget. Since then, he has travelled through the carriages of the Madrid Metro with his guitar, telling passengers the story of a love that was left unfinished. A story that, after so many years, continues to be part of his life, until one day, through one of those coincidences that seem possible only in a city like Madrid, their paths cross again. Twenty years later, fate brings them together once more on the same metro journey.

The Prelude musically represents this journey through the Madrid Metro. Lively, dynamic and strongly rhythmic music recreates the movement of the train, the comings and goings of the passengers, and the distinctive pulse of the city.

Following this opening section, the journey momentarily pauses at a central station. The frenetic rhythm gives way to a more intimate and unhurried atmosphere, in which part of the thematic material that will later be developed throughout the zarzuela appears for the first time. It is the moment when, behind the noise and movement of the metro, the love story hidden in the hearts of its protagonists begins to emerge.

After this brief stop, the train sets off again and the music regains its initial character, resuming the movement, energy and rhythm of the journey.

Thus, the Prelude becomes a musical journey through the Madrid Metro: a voyage between stations, memories and coincidences, where the present and the past are about to meet again.
